Definition may vary according to the scholars but one useful definition that would help to go through it, this is a technique for hiding the physical characteristics of computing resources from the way in which other applications, systems, or end users interact with those resources. What is that single physical resource? Such as an operating system, an application, a server, or storage device which appears to function as multiple logical resources. However, it can include making multiple physical resources like storage devices or servers that appear as a single logical resource.

From the early 1960s it has been widely used and later on it has been applied to many different aspects and scopes of computing from individual capabilities to entire computer systems or components. Notwithstanding the common theme of all virtualization technologies is remain same the hiding of technical detail, through encapsulation. Since then the development has been continuing to provide a better definition to it and recent development and the technologies have refocused attention on this concept.

The third of November is dedicated to Laika (name of the dog sent into the space). The first ever living creature had been launched into the space by The Soviet Union. Laika was described as a female Russian breed and projected into space from Baikonur Cosmodrome aboard the artificial space satellite Sputnik II. The scientist fitted the monitors to check the heartbeat and other vital signs of Laika and was reported to be calm during the first hours of the flight. Actually Russian scientists were particularly interested in the effects of solar radiation and weightlessness on living organisms. It had been in veil for years whether the Laika died from over-heating and panic just a few hours after take-off or died painlessly after a week in orbit. If we rely on the report of evidence revealed in 2002 by Soviet authorities then what about that report that had been released on 14 April 1958, five months after launch, report stated that Laika's "coffin" burned up in the Earth's atmosphere over Barbados. Anyway, the Sputnik II flight made Laika one of the most famous animals in the world and allowed scientists to learn much about the prospects for human space travel.
